Teachers can gain ideas for embedding careers learning into their schemes of learning from subject groups and also websites.  There are a range of resources on the market that suggest ways of incorporating careers learning into different subject areas.

  • Cornwall Heritage and History

Engaging with children and young people and inspiring them to learn about Cornwall’s heritage is Cornwall Heritage Trust’s priority.

Cornwall Heritage Trust has developed a number of educational resources across a wide range of subjects. These education packs contain valuable information about heritage sites in Cornwall and are available for teachers, students and members of the community to download from their Teaching Resources section.

In order to encourage school visits the Heritage Trust set up the grant scheme for transport costs for primary school trips with a heritage theme. Visit Grants for School Transport, if you would like to apply for a school transport grant for your primary school to visit heritage sites within Cornwall.

  • Vocational subjects (Construction, Engineering and Hair and Beauty) tend to be very careers focused with work placements, visits to business, guest speakers and sector careers fairs embedded in the course.
  • Other subjects (Catering, Business, Design and ICT) also often organise visits to local businesses and invite employers into lessons to talk to and support students complete challenges and coursework.
  • Example: Helston Community College Year 12 musicians have composed music for a string quartet as part of their course and musicians from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra have visited the school to support them to rehearse and record their compositions.
