Careers Leader & Governor Training & Resources

Direct access to fully funded and free training and resources dedicated to supporting a whole-school strategy and approach to Careers

Careers Leader training is the most impactful offer for ALL Careers Leaders, regardless of their experience. It is part of the CEC’s strategy to create a self-improving system that supports leaders across the system through training and development.

For every school or college member of staff undertaking the Level 6 CL training, the institution will receive a £1,000 bursary.


New for 2023!

Enhanced Career Leader Training (refresher) for those who completed their training before 2020. Sign up on CEC website as usual.

Note careers leaders can claim a bursary of £500 for successful completion of this course (not £1000 as per standard CLTraining).

As a result of the Level 6 training, participants should be able to:

-Understand and apply relevant policies and frameworks for practice that support positive/improved student outcomes
-Make use of career and labour market information to inform a strategic plan and a progressive careers programme
-Understand the role and value of a Careers Leader
-Describe and perform the key roles and attributes that comprise careers leadership: Leadership/Management/Co-ordination/Networking
-Articulate the value of strategic Careers Leadership to secure SLT and Governor engagement and support
-Articulate and adopt the principles of good leadership and management and consider how this support developing a whole school, special school or college approach to careers guidance
-Discuss key aspects of career theory and how these apply to their learners and the school’s or college’s careers programme and the local/regional context
-Understand how to build, and lead the implementation of, a Strategic Careers Plan aligned to your school special school/college strategic priorities
-Develop yourself and your strategic plan and progressive careers programme in the light of reflection, evaluation and new evidence
-Understand how an effective Strategic Careers plan can contribute towards school/college improvement
