This post represents a partnership between the Careers & Enterprise Company, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly (CIoS) Local Enterprise Partnership and Cornwall Council to work within the Careers Hub Team in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Careers hub has been set up to support businesses to meet their skills needs whilst inspiring and preparing young people to take their next best step.
Nationally, we form part of a wider network of 60 Careers Hubs and are one of four areas nationally to be selected to expand our work to incorporate 80 primary schools to the following objectives:
An increased awareness amongst primary aged children of the range of jobs and career pathways available
Higher aspirations among primary pupils in terms of their own thinking about what jobs they may do in the future (and challenge to stereotypes)
A decrease in the extent to which stereotypes limit children’s thinking about their future careers.
Children having a forward looking, realistic view of the jobs and the way that we work
A developing understanding amongst children of the link between what they learn in school, skills and the world of work
Increase in parental engagement in supporting children to think broadly about future careers
The Primary Careers Project represents the most exciting development of our work since we launched the Careers Hub in 2018. The person filling this new role will need to be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, have strong project management skills and be able to drive progress at speed.
The Economy and Skills Service provides great opportunities and champions career and personal progression. More information about working for Cornwall Council is available here.
