Investing in the future of Bude business and young people

Date: 15 Feb

Networking is happening across many of our Cornwall Schools. Find out below the latest event led by our Enterprise Adviser, Rachel Walden in Bude earlier this month.

Last week EA Rachel Walden and her matched school Budehaven, broke ground with an event designed to demystify apprenticeships and make them a viable option for small businesses in their community.

In response to Careers Leaders, Fiona George and Rachel Leverton recalling how fired up students were following their apprenticeship awareness session, only to be deflated in the next session when it came to searching for apprenticeships in their area – there were none…

Rachel and the Careers Leaders pulled in speakers from the Local Authority, Petroc College and Skern Training. The team worked in collaboration with Bude and Greater Area Chamber of Commerce, and the event was hosted by Bott Ltd.

Local businesses were able to:

  • Get expert advice regarding the benefits of apprenticeships for business regardless of size, and understand the process and support available.
  • Hear from local employers and their positive experiences of having apprentices.
  • Learn how to become a champion for the future of young people.
  • Ask questions and network.

There were some fantastic conversation happening after the talks, without exception all the businesses present were keen to seriously explore apprenticeships for their business. Putting on an event like this in a small community like Bude is no mean feat, and the team did an exceptional job, we really look forward to supporting them again in the future.
